2-pyrrolidone is colorless to slightly yellow liquid above 24.6°C, with a faint amine odor and becomes crystalline solid below 24.6°C. It is a high-polar solvent and it is miscible with water and conventional organic solvents. It is miscible with a wide variety of other solvents including water, ethanol, diethyl ether, chloroform,benzene, ethyl acetate and carbon disulfide.

2-pyrrolidone is an important chemical material, widely being used in making pharmaceuticals, textiles, dyes, coating and cosmetics, such as Pharmacy, nylon-4, pvp, artificial blood plasma etc..
